Stone and iron are hard materials, while sponge and cotton are soft. Glass and water are transparent, butter paper is translucent, and wood is opaque. Sugar and salt dissolve in water and are therefore soluble, while sand and chalk powder are insoluble. These properties help us choose suitable materials for making different objects.

Answer:
